Women Public Strain Review
Great songs, actually one great song can make a band 'buzz'. black rice, a song from their debut self-titled album in 2008 was thought to be that song. On this new album however, Women still continue their signature textured guitars and Chad VanGaalen's signature production but expect more than a song (not to say their first album was just that one song). this album's every second is integral to the experience to the listener. As the opener cant you see creeps along the second track heat distraction falls down hard after its trailing bass line.
Women never linger too long on an idea, their jam sessions seemingly loose are compacted and are tightly woven together all within one song. The insturmental interlude's of songs, and there is a lot of that but thats not a complaint, is essential for the songs coming after it.
The band heads into new territory not yet visited by other indie-rock bands. Their marriage of production and song writing is one of the strongest, not lo-fi but rather recorded like some of their favorite albums, albums recorded on tape in the late 70's and early 80's.
Album comes out 9/28/10
